My obsession with lighthouses started with an innocent little trip to a local gift shop with my mother. I found a cute little trinket box with the Cape Hatteras lighthouse on the lid and just "had" to have it. Little did I know that it would take off from there!
I now collect not only miniature replicas, but also just about anything else with a lighthouse on it! Ever seen anyone with a lighthouse soap dispenser? I've got one. My last vacation was spent visiting as many lighthouses as possible in three days. Of course, my car sports a personalized lighthouse tag on my front bumper.
My favorite collectables are made by Lefton and Harbour Lights, and I used most of Lefton's miniature Christmas ornaments on my tree last year.
I also subscribe to Lighthouse Digest magazine, which is the best magazine out there that deals with lighthouse collecting, tours, and preservation.
Most importantly, as a Christian I see lighthouses as an example of what my life should be like. Lighthouses are built to weather hurricanes, earthquakes, and serve as a beacon to the world. I know that through the grace of my Savior, Jesus Christ, I can weather any storm and also be an example to those around me.
